Frequently Asked Questions

Parking

There is ample off-street parking directly behind the Park Street Medical Suites building.

Can I choose which Doctor I see?

Initial consultation is usually based on a referral by your GP or other Doctor. You can be assured, however, that the combined expertise of all our doctors will be utilised to ensure the highest standards of your health care. Our doctors have shared interests and individual subspecialties, so you may be given the option to see a different neurologist within our practice if appropriate.

If you have concerns or specific requests, please discuss these with your doctor or our Practice Manager.

How to make an appointment

We require a referral from a Doctor (GP or other specialist) outlining your history and reason for the referral. Our doctors review and triage each referral based on the clinical urgency of the information provided, and our administration team will contact you by phone regarding an appointment. We will advise you of the consultation fees at this time. Please call 07 4779 9266 if you have not been contacted within 10 business days post referral; however, you are welcome to email or phone us to confirm that your referral has been received in the meantime.

You will receive an SMS reminder approximately one week prior to your appointment. You are required to confirm (Y) or decline (N) the appointment via SMS, or phone our rooms to reschedule.

Do you accept Workcover patients?

Some of our doctors accept Workcover patients. Please ensure your claims manager is aware of your appointment and provide the Workcover claim number at the time of your appointment booking.

What to bring to my appointment

Please bring any supporting documents relevant to your appointment, such as test results (scans or other investigations) and current medication list.

Administrative documents to bring include a valid Medicare card, health insurance details, DVA, healthcare card or concession details (if applicable).

At your first appointment, you will need to complete a ‘Personal Details’ form. If you wish to complete this at an earlier date, the form can be downloaded here, or completed online here.

Feel free to bring support person with you.

What is a neurologist?

A neurologist is a specialist who diagnoses and treats conditions of the nervous system, including brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles.

What locations do you offer clinic appointments?

Our neurologists primarily consult in Townsville; however, regularly visit Mackay and Cairns for outreach clinics.
After initial face-to-face consultation, telehealth appointments may be available on a case-by-case basis.

What are your fees?

Being a private practice, our fees are only partly covered by Medicare. Fees will be dependent upon the clinical complexity of the case and services required. Private medical insurance does not tend to cover costs of outpatient appointments. You will be advised of the appointment fees at time of appointment booking. Please consult with your private medical insurance provider or contact our Practice Manager for assistance.

All fees are due on the day of your appointment. Our staff will electronically claim the Medicare rebate on your behalf at time of payment, so the rebated amount is reimbursed to your account within 24-48 hours.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

Please notify our administration team as soon as possible if you are unable to attend your appointment. This allows us to offer your appointment time to someone on our cancellation waitlist, as well as organise an alternative appointment time for you.

Cancellation fees may apply if you fail to attend your appointment without providing notice.
